Mount Bromo

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, East Java, Indonesia

About Mount Bromo

Mount Bromo is Indonesia's most iconic active volcano, standing majestically at 2,329 meters above sea level within the vast Tengger Caldera. Surrounded by the famous "Sea of Sand" — a 5,250-hectare volcanic desert — Bromo's landscape is utterly unique in the world.

The most thrilling experience is witnessing the sunrise from Pananjakan Peak (2,770 masl): the sky transforms from deep blue to blazing orange, while white smoke billows from Bromo's crater below, with Mount Semeru (3,676 masl) — Java's highest peak — rising majestically in the background. This moment is one of the most dramatic vistas in Southeast Asia.

The journey to the crater begins with a 4x4 Jeep ride across the Sea of Sand, followed by a climb up 250 stone steps to the crater rim. There, the scent of sulfur and the rumble of the crater create an unforgettable sensory experience. The area is also home to the Tengger people, who have preserved their Hindu traditions for centuries.
